NEW BOOK EXPLAINS THAT WE ARE NOT HERE BY ACCIDENT…AND WE ARE NEVER TRULY ALONE

I’m so proud of my Aussie mate, AJ Cavanagh, who I first met back in 1999 when we both worked at a tv station in Toronto. He and his husband, Tom Workman, have just published a beautiful book exploring life from a whole different level! The Aligned Soul features transformational wisdom shared from The Guides – a collective of non-physical beings dedicated to helping humanity remember its true nature – these profound teachings are channeled through AJ and Tom, and are designed to realign your life and provide a clear roadmap for navigating the human experience from a spiritual perspective. I recently spoke with AJ and Tom on their profound relationship with The Guides and how this book came to be…..

What first inspired you to write this book together?
AJ: Since 2019, we’ve been channeling a collective consciousness we call ‘The Guides.’ From the very beginning, we recorded and transcribed every session because we immediately sensed there was something meaningful and transformative in the messages coming through. The messages consistently focused on self-realization: understanding who we truly are, why we are here, and how connected we are to something far greater than ourselves.

Over time, we realized these teachings were not just meant for private sessions or live audiences — they were meant to reach people in a more accessible and lasting way. We began sending the messages in free weekly emails we call “Wisdom Wednesdays” so that people could receive the wisdom of The Guides regularly. The Aligned Soul emerged naturally from that collection. It became a way to share these teachings in a format people could return to whenever they needed clarity, encouragement, or a reminder of their own inner power and purpose.

When did you each first discover The Guides and your ability to channel them?
Tom: Before we met, we were each exploring spirituality in our own ways. I had been studying channeling with a mentor in Washington, DC, while AJ was independently opening to channeling experiences in Toronto, Canada.Soon after we first met, we decided to hold space for each other to channel. I would channel the grandfather ancestors, and AJ would channel the extra-terrestrial beings. Those early experiences were incredibly exciting and deeply validating. But soon after, we discovered something unique happened when we began to enter the channeling state together simultaneously. That’s when ‘The Guides’ introduced themselves to us. Their energy, wisdom, and love felt distinct from anything we had experienced before, and from that point forward our work truly took shape.

Who are The Guides and why have you been chosen to share their messages and love?
Tom: There are many wonderful channels and spiritual teachers sharing wisdom today. We asked The Guides that same question ourselves, and though we loved having them speak through us, we were frankly a bit hesitant to join the fray.

Their response surprised us. They explained that many people are awakening and opening spiritually right now, but that different audiences resonate with different voices and personalities. They said there are people who will hear and receive these messages most clearly through us and our way of communicating. They also shared that they recognized in us a genuine willingness to learn, grow, and dedicate ourselves to this work. We see ourselves less as “special” and more as willing participants in helping people reconnect with their own truth and inner knowing.

You’ve already enjoyed success with the book when you launched it recently at the New Living Expo in California. What did people say when they picked the book up and thumbed through the pages?
AJ: Seeing people respond to the book in real time was incredibly moving. Anyone who has written a book knows there’s a vulnerable moment when readers first engage with your work. At the New Living Expo, we met not only spiritual seekers but also many respected voices within the metaphysical community. What stood out most was how naturally people interacted with the book. Many would place their hand on it and ask, “What message do I need today?” before opening to a random page.(Pictured below – Tom(L) and AJ at R)Tom: It was amazing to see people become emotional or visibly surprised by how directly the message spoke to what they were experiencing in their lives. Whether someone calls that synchronicity, intuition, or divine timing, the reactions were genuine and deeply heartfelt.
By the end of the event, we had sold nearly every physical copy we brought with us, which was incredibly encouraging and affirming.

I personally love the book’s format – easy to read with illustrations for every message: you don’t have to read it all at once but can refer to it any time. Did you create this layout to enable readers to access the messages in small doses?
Tom: Absolutely. The format came to us directly from The Guides. They wanted the book to feel interactive and intuitive rather than something people had to read strictly from beginning to end. Some readers use it as a daily source of inspiration by opening to a random page each morning. Others explore the index to find guidance around current questions or life challenges. And of course, some enjoy reading it cover to cover. The book is organized into three core sections: remembering your purpose, your power, and your connection — to Source, to others, and to yourself. In many ways, it becomes a practical guide for navigating life more consciously and intentionally within a connected Universe.

Must readers already be open to the metaphysical or have spiritual leanings to understand the book, or can anyone simply be exploring their lives to appreciate The Guides’ messages?
AJ: That’s one of the things we love most about the book — people do not need to identify as “spiritual” to connect with it. The messages simply remind readers of truths they already sense deep within themselves: that they matter, that they can create change in their lives, and that life is often unfolding with greater meaning and purpose than they realize. So many people have forgotten their own inner power because of stress, fear, or difficult circumstances. The book gently reconnects them to that deeper knowing.
Tom: The teachings are universal. Regardless of someone’s religious background, personal beliefs, or life experience, the messages invite readers to reconnect with the truth of who they are. I think people resonate with the material because it doesn’t feel preachy or dogmatic — it feels personal, reflective, and deeply human.

Where can people purchase The Aligned Soul?

“Snowbirds” Wealth Mgmn’t professional now author, GERRY SCOTT, launches new guidebook to help Canadian travelers owning property in the US

I recently welcomed new client, Gerry A. Scott CIM®, CFP® CRPC® who has just released his guidebook for Canadians living part of the year in the US, owning homes, etc., titled Canadians Heading South for the Winters!
Gerry, (pictured below) has worked in wealth management for 35 years and over the past decade, has become one of Canada’s leading experts in cross-border residency and tax issues.I sat down for a chat with Gerry so I can share with you the importance of understanding the various challenges being a snowbird entails.

What first prompted you to write this book targeting the “snowbird” community?
A. After more than three decades advising clients—many of whom spend significant time in the U.S.—I kept seeing the same costly mistakes repeated over and over. These weren’t small issues either; they involved taxes, residency status, healthcare coverage, and even being denied entry at the border.  Through my work and the Snowbirds Expat Radio Podcast, it became clear there was a major gap between what people think they know and what actually matters. The book was written to close that gap—to provide clear, practical guidance so Canadians heading south can avoid mistakes that can be financially and emotionally damaging.

You’ve been providing wealth management advice for this community for many years—how have all the rules & regulations changed over time? How difficult is it now to own property in the U.S. and travel freely across the border?
A. The biggest shift has been increased enforcement and data tracking. It’s not necessarily that the rules themselves have drastically changed—it’s that governments now have much better systems to monitor and enforce them.

Cross-border travel is far more scrutinized today. U.S. Customs tracks entries and exits electronically, and the IRS applies formulas like the Substantial Presence Test, which can unexpectedly classify Canadians as U.S. tax residents.

Owning property in the U.S. is still very doable, but it comes with more complexity – tax filings, estate considerations, and currency planning all need to be handled properly. The days of casually spending winters in the U.S. without understanding the rules are long gone. Are there any specific issues that snowbirds need to address immediately?
A. Absolutely—there are a few that require immediate attention:

  • Tracking your days in the U.S. – This is critical. Losing track can trigger U.S. tax residency.
  • Filing the right forms – Many Canadians don’t realize they may need to file IRS Form 8840 to avoid being treated as a U.S. resident.
  • Healthcare coverage – Provincial coverage has limits, and travel insurance must align with your actual time out of country.
  • Estate planning – Owning U.S. assets can expose Canadians to U.S. estate tax if not structured properly.

These are not “nice to have” items—they are essential to get right. Prior to your book, you had already introduced an app that allows Canadians to monitor the time (days) allowed in the U.S – how important is that?
A. It’s extremely important – arguably one of the most critical tools a snowbird can use. The rules around how many days you can spend in the U.S. aren’t as simple as just staying under 183 days in a single year. The IRS uses a rolling three-year formula, which can catch people off guard.Check the app for details: @snowbirdstrackerapp

About the Author:
Gerald A. Scott CIM®, CFP® CRPC® is a cross-border financial professional and educator focused on issues affecting Canadian snowbirds and expatriates. He is also the founder of tools and resources created to help Canadians better track time in the U.S. and make more informed cross-border decisions. Through his work, Gerry has helped shine a light on the practical realities snowbirds face when navigating life between Canada and the United States. Gerry is currently working on his second book.

He’s spent 35 years—and counting—in the wealth management world. Over the last decade, my work has focused almost entirely on the cross-border space. He holds portfolio management licences in both Canada and the United States, and he’s fully designated to write comprehensive financial plans for Canadians who spend part of the year in the United States, including Snowbirds and individuals navigating cross-border tax and residency considerations related to extended winter stays.  This book has grown out of that work.

The book is available now from Amazon so if you are a snowbird…or as we call ’em Down Under, grey nomads, this is an essential travel companion! Here’s the direct link for your convenience:  https://bit.ly/4tfQk4Y
